In a bid to promote Odia culture and cuisine, Ranjita Institute of Hotel Management (RIHM) have organised a state level ‘Pitha & Pana’ competition on March 31st-2017, here in the city where more than 50 participants have participated in the event. Chairman Mr. Sanjib Kumar Rout was presiding over the function & has said Pitha & Pana must be consumed by our youngsters than fast foods like pizza & burgers. He also said Pitha & Pana are nutritious than the common fast foods we consume in our day to day life.
Citing details about the contest, Mr. Susanta Ranjan Chaini Principal, RIHM said the cuisine in Orissa is rich and varied. ‘Pitha Pana’ is one of the most nutritious and delicious part of the Odia cuisine. He further said Orissa is a state which is not only famous for its rich heritage, culture and temples but also for its delicacies. There are various types of Pitha that are made in Odia households including, Chhenna Poda, Poda Pitha, Enduri Pitha, Chitau Pitha,Arisa Pitha, kakara Pitha and Manda pitha.
On traditional festivals sweet pithas form a part of the celebrations. Even pithas are also routinely prepared and served in Oriya homes in normal days. Among invitees Padmashree Tulasi Munda was the chief guest, Fssai officer Mr. Arun Kumar Chaterjee was Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries were Chairman Mr. Snjib Kumar Rout, Advisor Ms. Arya Panigrahi, Nestle Area Sales Mnager Mr. Bhaskar Das were also present. Nestle company has sponsored the first, second and third prizes to Mrs. Laxmipriya Rout, Mrs Ava Das & Mrs. Gitanjali Prusty respectively. The event ended with vote of thanks by Principal & traditional refreshment.
